Women Who Lead

Registration:

Registration is required. Registration for the 2012 conference will be available in February 2012. Please follow the link below to register for the conference. If you plan to attend the event on both campuses, please register for both events separately by completing one registration form, then return here to complete the registration process for the other campus. If you have any questions about the registration process, please call the Women's Center at 305-348-1506 for assistance. The conference is sponsored by SGA and free to students. The networking lunch is offered at a cost of $7 for students. The networking lunch is offered at a cost of $10 for FIU faculty, staff, and administration. The cost of the entire conference for FIU alumni is $20 and all other community members is $25.

Purpose: 

Women Who Lead is a daylong conference designed to further enhance the leadership development of female students at FIU. To accomplish this, the conference has four goals:

  • To enhance students’ understanding and awareness about the scope of women in leadership in our society today
  • To enhance students' understanding and awareness about the scope of women in leadership in our society today
  • To develop a greater understanding of the diversity of careers available in their chosen field of interest
  • To assist female students in developing their personal leadership plan

BBC - Wendy Kallergis, President and CEO of Greater Miami and the Beaches Hotel Association.  Formerly the President of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, Wendy is experienced in the tourism industry in Miami and considers Miami, “a very exciting town to be in right now."

MMC – Cristine O’Hara has been recognized as Miami-Dade’s top Teacher Of The Year for 2011.  An alumna of Florida International University, she is utilizing her education and passion for teaching to change our local community every day.

Keynote Speakers 2010:

BBC - Dawn Walzak, First Vice President of Tishman Hotel Corporation (THC) in Orlando, Florida.  In October 2002 Dawn completed the opening of the new $330 million Westin New York at Times Square and this year Dawn was named one of Travel Weekly’s Forty under Forty – the leaders who represent the "next generation" of travel

MMC – Beth Sobol, President Sobol Fashion Productions and founder of International Fashion Week, Miami.  Beth works with the fashion industry’s most influential designers and producers worldwide and was presented with the 2009 Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

Lindsay Hyde: founder and executive director of Strong Women, Strong Girls, Inc. (SWSG), a Massachusetts-based not-for-profit organization that helps at-risk girls in grades 3-5 build positive self-esteem and skills

Chef Michelle Bernstein, winner of the 2008 James Beard Award for “Best Chef: South” and the Glass Ceiling Award from the Jewish Federation
